CLYC:Ce Gamma / Neutron Scintillators

Cs2LiYCl6:Ce (CLYC) scintillators combine the characteristics of medium resolution gamma ray detectors and 3He neutron detectors in one scintillation material. CLYC scintillators can therefore be used for both gamma and neutron detection.

Overview 

The energy resolution realized with CLYC varies and depends on the size and configuration of the detector employed. Superior to both NaI and CsI, this value is typically in the 4.5% - 5.5% FWHM range for 662 keV. CLYC also allows for the use of Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD) for improved Neutron detection. When the 6Li in CLYC absorbs a neutron, the resulting light pulse is brighter and longer than the pulse from the gamma ray. Signal processing electronics can then more easily analyze and count neutron radiation with less contamination from gamma rays. CLYC scintillators are hygroscopic and are offered by BNC hermetically sealed in an aluminum housing with an entrance window or fully assembled with a light read out device and front-end electronics. CLYC scintillators can be supplied in sizes up to 2”x2” and are SiPM compatible. Contact us to discuss your requirements.
