Detectors covered under this program include all Intrinsic Germanium (or Hyper Pure Germanium) detectors manufactured by PGT since 1980!
PGT has manufactured HPGe detectors for over 25 years. We feel each one can be repaired and upgraded to be as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a new detector of equal sensitivity. This is because the crystals donít really age. The cryostats and the vacuum, however, do degrade over time. PGT will offer a service contract for your PGT detector, as well as selected Canberra and Ortec detectors. Any working detector can be covered by a service warranty contract for a period of 1 or 2 or 3 years. The service contract can be tailored to a specific detector or for all of the detectors in your facility. Your specific contract will address cryostat parts and vacuum, crystal and preamplifier. For PGT detectors, all you need to provide is the detector serial number along with your name, facility and contact information. For other manufacturerís detectors, PGT will require the detector data sheet. Upon review of the information, PGT will promptly contact you with the terms of the contract tailored to your specific requirements. Please note that Ortec Pop-Top detectors cannot be covered by a standard service contract, but please read on about our detector refurbishment program. After some time, the ability for the cryostat vacuum to repair itself with temperature cycling disappears. Degraded vacuums can lead to leakage current on the crystal rendering the detector useless.
