The 29th Continuing Challenge Workshop brought HAZMAT personnel, law enforcement, and exhibitors from all over the United States to the DoubleTree in Sacramento, CA. With over 600 attendees and around two dozen exhibitors, the Continuing Challenge is quickly becoming the biggest HAZMAT conference on the West Coast. It serves as a perfect opportunity for HAZMAT teams to stay informed and get hands-on experience with the newest technologies. The exhibitors’ ballroom was full of everything a first responder may need, from ruggedized gurneys to chemical and fireproof suits.
Berkeley Nucleonics presented a wide array of radiation detection and protection equipment at the event. However, the two instruments that stood out to attendees the most were the trusted Model 951 NukeAlert PRD and the new MetRad 1, a two-in-one radiation detection and metal detection wand. The NukeAlert is a favorite of Fire Departments for its rugged and watertight form factor, Two-year battery life, and ease of use functionality. The MetRad 1 also received a large amount of interest since it provides added security without increasing the number of instruments required. It also offers a lightweight, rugged plastic exterior with a large CsI detector to ensure compliance with ANSI N42.32 standards. The MetRad 1 is the perfect two-in-one solution for applications where ultimate sensitivity and fast deployment are needed, such as ports, courtrooms, and security checkpoints.
