#### LBC (LaBr₂.₈₅Cl₀.₁₅:Ce) Scintillation Detectors for High-Resolution Gamma Spectroscopy

LBC (lanthanum bromochloride doped with cerium) scintillators serve as an alternative to NaI(Tl) and CeBr₃ detectors in applications requiring good energy resolution for gamma-ray measurements. They share many characteristics with LaBr₃ but provide improved mechanical strength.

##### Key Properties of LBC Scintillation Detectors

- **Energy Resolution** — Typically 3% FWHM at 662 keV, offering better performance than the ~4% commonly seen with CeBr₃ detectors.
- **Mechanical Durability** — Stronger than standard LaBr₃, reducing risk of cracking or damage in handling or field use.
- **Intrinsic Background** — Contains trace La-138 (similar to LaBr₃), producing a low-energy background line around 32 keV; this can be subtracted via background acquisition in most measurement setups.
- **Hygroscopic Nature** — Requires encapsulation to protect against moisture absorption.

##### Available Configurations

- Encapsulated crystals with entrance window.
- Crystals integrally coupled to light sensors (PMT or SiPM).
- Complete detector assemblies including light sensor and front-end electronics (preamplifier, shaping, etc.).

Crystal sizes range from small pixels suitable for arrays to larger volumes up to 102 mm × 127 mm, supporting single-detector or multi-detector systems.

These **high-resolution gamma scintillation detectors** are applied in:

- Nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation inspections
- Environmental radioactivity monitoring
- Homeland security and nuclide identification
- Waste characterization and decommissioning
