Appendix D: About the Contributors

Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation

Berkeley Nucleonics Corporation (BNC) is a leading manufacturer of precision electronic instrumentation for test, measurement, nuclear, and microwave research. Our corporate headquarters is in San Rafael, California, with additional manufacturing facilities and sales offices throughout the United States. BNC also maintains an international network of manufacturer's representatives and sales engineers for global sales and support.

Founded in 1963, the company initially developed fast-risetime pulse generators for nuclear research. We now produce the widest range of signal generators in the world, spanning microwave, TTL, high voltage to 10 kV, optical, NIM, and vector signal generators. Other product families include phase-noise analyzers, programmable power supplies, USB power sensors, and vector network analyzers.

BNC Academy

The Berkeley Nucleonics Online Academy is a user-centered library of short courses designed to quickly familiarize students with basic principles and terminology across a variety of technologies. Courses run from two to eight hours, often with CEU options and a certificate of completion. They are frequently bundled into series on related topics. Courses combine instruction, video, and diagrams to emphasize principles in test, measurement, and nuclear sciences. This handbook is a companion to the Academy course on USB power sensors.

David A. Brown

David became President of Berkeley Nucleonics in 2001, seven years after joining the company. Under his guidance, the company's offerings have expanded into RF and microwave, nuclear spectroscopy, high-speed signal generation, and high-voltage / high-current designs. David supports a growing number of courses in the Berkeley Nucleonics Academy and is an active participant in many industry working groups and events. He holds a B.A. in Entrepreneurial Management from San Francisco State University. He is the second-generation operator of Berkeley Nucleonics and resides in San Rafael, California, with his wife, two children, and two lazy Maltipoos.

Cameron Simmons

Cameron is an electrical engineer in the Test and Measurement department at Berkeley Nucleonics. He was heavily involved in the launch of the RF Power Measurement product line in 2023. Cameron configures parallel systems in the lab to support complex applications and works with end users worldwide. A Bay Area native, Cameron earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from San Francisco State University with a focus on analog circuit design. In his home music studio, he composes and records electronic music, showcasing a passion for electronics both at work and at play.
